INTRODUCTION
"What is Enduris Glass Core technology?"
Enduris Glass Core technology starts with the glass-fiber at the center of the yarn. As a material, glass has many significant benefits that make it good for screen fabrics and thus, for our customers.
- Glass is lightweight, but extremely strong. It is used for a wide range of high-performance applications that take advantage of this fact, from fiberglass window frames and doors, to structural members of bridges, to critical surfaces in planes and boats. For screen fabrics, the strength and stability of glass results in dimensionally stable fabrics with little to no elongation or stretching. Shades used in normal applications will remain both functional and attractive for the entire product lifespan.
- Glass has high resistance to heat and integral flame resistance. These characteristics make glass-fiber content well suited for many sensitive applications that require Class A fire ratings. Screen fabrics woven with glass yarns can meet even strict European M1 and B1 standards for fire safety.
- Glass is a natural material and is chemically inert. Unlike some synthetic compounds based on petroleum, glass is essentially a pure mineral. It does not easily interact with materials in the environment, one reason it has traditionally been selected for use in medical and scientific containers. For screen fabrics, we do not have to make special preparations for shades used in even specialized environments. They are easy to clean and do not promote microbial growth.
Glass-core fabrics require significant production expertise to ensure optimal performance. Fabric weavers and shade manufacturers who have adopted Enduris Glass Core technology have committed to ensure their products meet the highest standards, investing very significant resources in the following areas:
- Specially formulated coatings
- Expertise in yarn coating
- Superior weaving technique
- Demanding production standards
- Thorough testing and documentation of results
PRESS RELEASE
"Key to Design of High-Performance, Sustainable Roller Shades:
Woven Fabrics with Enduris™ Glass Core Technology"
Founding industry partners Helioscreen, Mermet, Hexcelscreen, and Hunter Douglas announce Enduris™ Glass Core technology, a proprietary combination of glass yarns, coatings, fully tested production techniques, and proven performance characteristics. Fabrics with Enduris™ Glass Core technology ensure outstanding strength and durability for both outdoor and indoor shade applications. Designed and tested for the highest levels of performance and with a wide palette of attractive designs, fabrics based on Enduris™ Glass Core technology have been installed in offices and executive suites, educational and health-care facilities, public spaces, hotels, restaurants, and residential areas.
Solar shading fabrics made with Enduris™ Glass Core technology contribute to sustainable buildings by effectively managing solar heat protection, diffusing incoming natural light, enhancing interior comfort and increasing occupant productivity. External blinds featuring these fabrics have been tested to eliminate up to 90% of heat from solar radiation (up to 64% with internal blinds).
The result: A more pleasant indoor environment, with temperatures reduced by as much as 5°C to 15°C, contributing to energy savings such as cooling load reductions of 40% to 60%. The screen fabrics also provide excellent protection against UV radiation. The proven outstanding strength and quality of fabrics with Enduris Glass Core technology make them a leading option for architects and designers.
All shades made with these fabrics offer excellent aesthetics, the highest strength and durability to maintain those looks, and performance characteristics that contribute to a healthier, more sustainable indoor environment.
Currently, Helioscreen, Mermet, and Hexcelscreen offer 1,122 solar shading fabrics with Enduris™ Glass Core technology for outdoor & indoor applications. The fabrics feature a wide variety of color choices, opennesses, and widths. Available from leading makers of window shades, this comprehensive range gives architects and designers solutions for nearly any application.
Helioscreen has been a weaver of coated fiberglass fabrics (´Screen´) since 1974 and is one of the major manufacturers of this product. Almost three-quarters of the output of Helioscreen's weaving plant are exported to more than 50 countries.
Mermet has progressively positioned itself from the family company, 57 years ago, as one of the European leaders in the solar protection sector because of its knowledge of the coated glass yarn and its creativity.
Hexcelscreen is strategically positioned in the solar protection market thanks to its use of non-coated and coated glassyarn and collaboration with the "Light and electromagnetic radiation" group of the French national school of public works, a laboratory linked to the CNRS, the national scientific research centre.
Hunter Douglas is the world leader in window coverings and a major manufacturer of architectural products.
